Frequently Asked Questions

Why select Inside Mounted Shutters?
Inside mounted means the shutter and its frame are installed or "mounted" inside the window opening itself.

  • Gives a natural look to the shutter for a true Custom Window Treatment.

Why select Outside Mounted Shutters?
Outside mounted shutters are installed or "mounted" around, outside, or on top of the window opening or molding/trim.

  • The window depth is not adequate.
  • 99% of the time we can install an inside mount shutter

Can a divider rail only be located in the center of a panel?
A divider rail can be located anywhere within a shutter panel.

What is the difference between traditional and plantation style shutters?
The major difference is the size of the louvers, the panel thickness and the width of the stiles.

Do shutters only come in white?

No our colors and stains are custom made for a professional finish

Can shutters be mounted only on the lower portion of a window?
Yes, this is called a cafe type shutter unit.

Can shutters be installed in a window with an opening crank?
Yes, we can install shutters in a window with a crank. Many times the crank handle can be removed to provide space for the shutters. The handle can then be replaced when you want to open the window. We also have many other tricks up our sleeves.

Can shutters be mounted on a sliding glass door opening?
Yes. We generally treat a sliding glass door opening as a large window. The panels attach to either side and open in either direction.  We also offer a shutter track system.

Will shutters block out all light?
Shutters are not designed to be a "black-out" window covering. Shutters control a large percent of light, but there will be a little light that penetrates between the louvers and stile, between louvers, and between the shutters and window opening.

Are interior shutters considered a capital improvement?
According to the Internal Revenue Service, shutters are the only window treatment that can be considered a capital improvement.
